Elie Besserer-Offroy, Ph.D.
Principal Investigator | Assistant Professor (Research)
THERNOVCA Excellence Research Chair
U1086-INSERM, Baclesse Comprehensive Cancer Center (France)
Dr. Besserer-Offroy is an Assistant Professor (Research) of Nuclear Medicine and Pharmacology at the Inserm Research Unit 1086 – Anticipe (France). Dr. Besserer-Offroy received his ASc in Biological Sciences in 2009 from the Université de Franche-Comté (France), which he followed with a BMSc in Medical Biochemistry from the Université Claude-Bernard – Lyon I (France) in 2010. Then, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean and completed his PhD in Pharmacology at the Université de Sherbrooke under the supervision of Prof. Sarret in 2017. During his graduate studies, Dr. Besserer-Offroy was interested in characterizing novel G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) ligands for the treatment of chronic pain but also in deciphering cellular signaling pathways associated with the physiological effects observed in vivo of such GPCRs. In 2017, Élie was an Assistant Research Scientist for an academic consortium partnering with a biotech company. During this time, he worked on on the development of a new generation of ion channel biosensors with preclinical applications in target validation and drug discovery. From 2018 to 2021, Élie was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University under the mentorship of Dr. Terry Hébert where he studied the functional role of GPCR heterodimerization in the signaling processes in vitro and in vivo. From 2019 to 2021, he has been a Faculty Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Université de Montréal, responsible of a Physiology class for PharmD students.
Before joining Inserm Research Unit 1086 – Anticipe, Dr. Besserer-Offroy was Professor of Pharmacology and Nuclear Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles.
